How to split a bill

  1. 1Enter the total bill.
  2. 2Enter how many people are splitting it.
  3. 3Optionally add a tip or service percentage.
  4. 4Read what each person pays.

Bill split formula

  1. 01Tip = total × tip% ÷ 100
  2. 02Grand total = total + tip
  3. 03Each person = grand total ÷ number of people

To split a bill evenly, add any tip or service charge first, then divide the grand total by the number of people. If there's no tip, it's simply the bill divided by the group size.

Splitting evenly is easiest, but if some people ordered much more, you might split only the shared items evenly and add each person's own items. For a quick, fair even split, this calculator does the sum for you.

Bill split example

A 5,000 bill split between 4 people is 1,250 each.

Good to know

  • Add the tip before dividing so everyone shares it equally.
  • For uneven orders, split shared items evenly and add each person's own items on top.
  • Round each share up slightly to cover rounding and leave a little extra.
