How to convert JPG, PNG and WebP images
- 1Choose the format you want: JPG, PNG or WebP.
- 2Add your images — JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, AVIF, or HEIC if your browser opens it.
- 3Set the quality for JPG or WebP, and a background colour for transparent images going to JPG.
- 4Download each file, or all of them as one ZIP.
How image conversion works
- 01Open (decode) the image → draw it on a canvas → save (encode) in the new format
- 02Transparent → JPG: see-through pixels are filled with the background colour
- 03JPG/WebP quality 90–92 % ≈ looks the same as the original
Every format stores the same thing — a grid of coloured pixels — in a different way. JPG uses lossy compression tuned for photos and has no transparency. PNG is lossless and keeps transparency, which suits logos, screenshots and text but makes photos large. WebP can do both lossy and lossless and is usually smaller than JPG at the same quality.
The converter opens each image with your browser's own decoder, draws it on a canvas and saves it in the new format. Converting can't add quality: a JPG turned into PNG keeps the JPG's look but becomes bigger. When a transparent image becomes a JPG, the see-through areas are filled with the background colour you choose (white by default).
Saving a new file also leaves out hidden photo data (EXIF) such as the camera model and GPS location, which is good for privacy. The picture is still shown the right way up, because the rotation is applied before saving.
Good to know
- Converting JPG to PNG doesn't improve quality — it only makes the file bigger.
- WebP to JPG is the quickest fix when a website or app won't accept WebP.
- Keep PNG for logos and screenshots with text; use JPG or WebP for photos.
- Conversion removes hidden photo data such as GPS location, so it's a simple way to share photos more privately.
Image converter — common questions
How do I convert WebP to JPG?
Choose JPG, add your WebP files and download. Transparent areas get the background colour (white by default). Quality 90–92 % keeps the picture looking the same.
Does converting lose quality?
Saving to PNG loses nothing. Saving to JPG or WebP is lossy, but at 90 % or more the difference is very hard to see. Converting back and forth many times slowly adds small artefacts.
Can I convert iPhone HEIC photos to JPG?
Yes in Safari (on iPhone, iPad or Mac), which can open HEIC. Chrome, Edge and Firefox can't read HEIC yet, so open this page in Safari for those photos.
Is transparency kept?
Yes when converting to PNG or WebP. JPG has no transparency, so see-through parts are filled with the background colour you pick.
Can I convert many images at once?
Yes. Add as many as you like; they're converted one after another and can be downloaded together as a ZIP.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Conversion happens entirely in your browser; your images never leave your device.
