How do I make a CV for a job?

  1. 1Fill in your personal details and add a photo if your country expects one — or tap “Upload my CV” to bring in an existing PDF or Word CV, or “Load example” and change it to yours.
  2. 2Add your work experience, education, skills and languages. Write one achievement per line, starting with an action verb and a number where you can.
  3. 3Open Design to pick one of the 10 templates, then a colour, font, paper size and date style. The pages update live and show exactly where page 2 starts.
  4. 4Check your score on the Check tab, then download the PDF or Word file, or print. Your CVs stay saved in this browser for next time.

How does this CV maker build the PDF and the score?

  1. 01Line width = sum of each letter's width in the font × text size ÷ 1000
  2. 02A line ends before the next word would pass the column width
  3. 03A row moves to the next page when its top + height > page bottom; headings and job titles move with it
  4. 04Score = points earned ÷ 18 × 100 (name, email, phone, experience = 2 points; 10 other checks = 1 point)

The CV is laid out by the same code for the preview, the print view and the PDF. For English and other Latin-alphabet text, every line is measured with the exact letter widths of the PDF's built-in fonts — Helvetica (the same widths as Arial) and Times (the same widths as Times New Roman) — so a line breaks in the PDF exactly where it breaks on your screen, and the dashed line between pages in the preview is the real page break. The PDF is written with real text, so it is small, sharp at any zoom, and recruiters' software (ATS) can read and search it. Links to your email, phone, LinkedIn and portfolio are clickable.

Each heading, job title and bullet point is a block that is never split across two pages; a heading or job title always moves to the next page together with the first lines under it, so nothing is left alone at the bottom of a page. Two-column templates fill each column on its own and use as many pages as the longer column needs.

The PDF's built-in fonts can only write Western European letters. If your CV contains Urdu, Arabic, Hindi or other scripts, the lines are measured with your browser's own fonts (Noto Naskh Arabic and Noto Sans Devanagari are downloaded if needed) and the PDF is made from sharp 200-dpi pictures of the pages, so every letter looks right — but that text can't be selected. The Word download always keeps real, editable text in every language, in a plain one-column layout with real headings and bullet lists that ATS software reads well.

The checklist score is a guide, not a promise: it checks the things recruiters and CV guides ask for — contact details, a 30–120 word summary, dates, 2 or more bullets per job, action verbs, numbers, no “I/my”, bullets under 35 words, 5+ skills and 1–2 pages.

Good to know

  • Tailor your CV to each job: copy the important words from the advert into your summary and bullets (only if they're true).
  • Write results, not duties: “Cut delivery time by 2 days” beats “Responsible for deliveries”.
  • Use a one-column template (Classic, Minimal, Executive or Corporate) for online applications and big companies' job portals; use Modern, Professional or Elegant when you email or hand over your CV.
  • Make a copy (Duplicate) for each type of job you apply for, and back up your CVs to a file now and then.

CV maker — common questions

Which CV template should I choose?

All 10 are free. For online applications and company job portals pick a one-column template — Classic, Minimal, Executive or Corporate — because applicant tracking systems read them most reliably. Modern and Professional put your skills in a sidebar and suit CVs you email or hand over; Timeline shows a steady career well; Elegant and Creative fit design, hospitality and customer-facing jobs; Compact fits the most on one page. Your text stays when you switch, so try several.

Can I upload my old CV and edit it here?

Yes. Choose “Upload my CV” and pick a PDF or Word (.docx) file: your name, contact details, jobs, dates, bullet points, education, skills and languages are read on your own device and put into the form — nothing is sent to a server. Every file is laid out differently, so check each section afterwards. A scanned PDF (a photo of a page) has no text to read.

What is the best CV format for a job?

A reverse-chronological CV — newest job first — is what most employers expect: your name and contact details, a short profile, work experience with achievements, education, then skills and languages. Keep the design clean, use standard headings and save it as a PDF unless the employer asks for Word.

How long should a CV be?

One page is best for students and people with less than about 5 years' experience; two pages is fine for most experienced people. Longer CVs are usually only for academic or senior roles. The preview shows exactly how many pages you have.

Should I put a photo on my CV?

It depends on the country. In the Gulf, Pakistan, India and much of Asia and Europe a professional photo is common; in the USA, UK, Canada and Ireland it is usually left out to avoid bias. You can switch the photo on or off at any time, and the Classic template never shows it; the other nine have a place for it.

What is an ATS-friendly CV?

Many companies use an applicant tracking system (ATS) that reads your CV before a person does. It reads one-column CVs with standard headings, real text (not pictures) and simple bullet points best. The Classic template and the Word download are built that way, and the PDF has real text in every template.

Is this CV maker really free, with no watermark?

Yes. Every template, the PDF and Word downloads and printing are free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many CVs you make. Your CVs are saved only in your own browser.

Can I make my CV in Urdu, Arabic or Hindi?

Yes. Type in any language — the page turns right-to-left automatically for Urdu and Arabic, and you can rename every heading. The PDF is then made from page pictures so the letters look right, and the Word file keeps editable text.
