How to work out trip fuel cost
- 1Enter the trip distance in kilometres.
- 2Enter your vehicle's mileage in km per litre.
- 3Enter the fuel price per litre.
- 4Read the fuel needed and the trip cost.
Fuel cost formula
- 01Litres = distance ÷ mileage (km per litre)
- 02Cost = litres × fuel price
- 03Cost per km = cost ÷ distance
To find a trip's fuel cost, work out how many litres it needs — the distance divided by your mileage in kilometres per litre — then multiply by the price per litre. A 100 km trip at 14 km/l needs about 7.1 litres.
If you know your average in litres per 100 km instead, divide it into the distance differently, but km/l is how most people in Pakistan quote mileage. For a round trip, enter the total both-way distance, and remember city driving uses more fuel than the highway.
Fuel cost example
A 100 km trip at 14 km per litre needs about 7.14 litres.
At 280 per litre, that costs 2,000.
Good to know
- Use your real average mileage — city driving is lower than the highway figure.
- For a return trip, enter the total distance both ways.
- Keeping tyres properly inflated and driving smoothly improves mileage.
Fuel cost calculator — common questions
How do I calculate fuel cost for a trip?
Divide the distance by your mileage (km per litre) to get the litres needed, then multiply by the fuel price. A 100 km trip at 14 km/l and 280/litre costs about 2,000.
How much petrol will my trip use?
Divide the distance by your vehicle's km-per-litre figure. 100 km at 14 km/l is about 7.1 litres.
How do I lower my fuel cost?
Drive smoothly, keep tyres inflated, avoid heavy loads and idling, and service the engine — all improve mileage and cut cost.
