How does image to PDF conversion work?
- 011 image = 1 page, in the order of the list
- 02A4 = 595 × 842 pt (210 × 297 mm) · Letter = 612 × 792 pt (8.5 × 11 in) · Legal = 612 × 1008 pt
- 03Scale = smaller of (page width − 2 × margin) ÷ image width and (page height − 2 × margin) ÷ image height
- 04"Same as image": page = image size at 96 pixels per inch, plus margins
A PDF page has a fixed size measured in points (72 points = 1 inch). Each image is scaled to fit inside the page minus its margins, keeping its shape, and centred — so nothing is cropped or stretched. In Auto orientation a wide photo gets a landscape page and a tall one a portrait page. "Same as image" makes every page exactly the shape of its picture.
JPG and PNG images are placed in the PDF as they are, so there is no loss of quality. Photos taken on a phone are often stored on their side with a note saying which way is up; the converter reads that note so every page comes out upright. Other formats (WebP, GIF, AVIF…) are first drawn and saved as high-quality JPEG, because PDF can't hold them directly.
Everything runs on your own device with the open-source pdf-lib library. Your images are read into the browser's memory, the PDF is built there, and the download is saved straight from it — no file is sent to a server, so private documents like IDs, receipts and certificates stay private.
Good to know
- Scanning documents with your phone? Crop each photo first so the page has no table or background around it.
- Use "Compress images" for email and online forms — many forms accept only 2–5 MB.
- Name your photos 01, 02, 03… and press "Sort by name" to put a long set in order at once.
- Choose Letter in the US and Canada and A4 almost everywhere else so the pages print without scaling.
JPG to PDF — common questions
Are my images uploaded anywhere?
No. The PDF is made inside your browser on your own device. Your images are never sent to a server, and nothing is kept after you close the page.
Will the PDF lose quality?
Not with compression off: JPG and PNG images go into the PDF unchanged. With "Compress images" on, photos are resized to about 2,500 pixels on the long side and saved as JPEG — still sharp on an A4 or Letter page, but much smaller.
How many images can I add?
There is no set limit. It depends on your device's memory — a phone handles dozens of photos easily, and a computer hundreds. Very large sets are faster with compression on.
Why was my photo sideways in other converters?
Phones often save photos on their side with a tag saying how to turn them. This converter reads that tag, so each page comes out the right way up.
Can I convert iPhone HEIC photos?
Yes in Safari, which can open HEIC. Other browsers may not open HEIC files; convert them to JPG first, or set the iPhone camera format to "Most Compatible".
Which page size should I choose?
A4 is the standard paper in most countries; Letter is used in the US, Canada and parts of Latin America. "Same as image" is best for viewing on screen because it adds no white borders.
