How to calculate your CGPA
- 1Choose how many semesters you've completed.
- 2For each semester, enter its GPA and credit hours.
- 3Read your cumulative GPA (CGPA) and total credit hours.
CGPA formula
- 01Each semester: points = semester GPA × semester credit hours
- 02CGPA = total points ÷ total credit hours
Your CGPA is the GPA across every semester you've done, not just one. Because semesters can carry different credit loads, it is credit-weighted: multiply each semester's GPA by its credit hours, add those up, and divide by the total credit hours.
That means a strong semester with many credits lifts your CGPA more than a strong one with few credits. It is the single number most degrees and employers look at, so it's worth tracking as you go.
If you know each course's grade rather than a semester GPA, use the GPA calculator first for each semester, then bring those GPAs here.
CGPA calculation example
Across these semesters, your CGPA is 3.5 over 36 credit hours.
Good to know
- Busier semesters (more credits) move your CGPA more, for better or worse.
- Work out each semester's GPA first with the GPA calculator, then combine them here.
- A few strong early semesters make it easier to keep a high CGPA later.
CGPA calculator — common questions
How is CGPA calculated?
Multiply each semester's GPA by its credit hours, add up the results, and divide by the total credit hours across all semesters.
What's the difference between GPA and CGPA?
GPA is for one semester; CGPA (cumulative GPA) is the weighted average across all your semesters.
How do I improve my CGPA?
Score higher in semesters with more credit hours, since they carry more weight, and keep later semesters strong as total credits grow.
Can I get CGPA from percentages?
Conversion between percentage and CGPA depends on your university's scale. Work out each semester's GPA first, then combine them here.
