How to calculate your gold's value
- 1Enter today's 24-karat gold rate per tola, in your currency.
- 2Choose the karat of your gold — 22k for most jewellery.
- 3Enter the weight and choose the unit: tola, grams, 10-gram or masha.
- 4Read the value of your gold, the per-tola and per-gram rate for that karat, and the pure gold it contains.
Gold value formula (tola, karat, purity)
- 011 tola = 11.6638 g · 1 tola = 12 masha · 10-gram = 10 ÷ 11.6638 tola
- 02Purity = karat ÷ 24 (24k = 1, 22k = 0.9167, 21k = 0.875, 18k = 0.75)
- 03Rate for your karat = 24k rate per tola × purity
- 04Value = weight in tola × 24k rate per tola × purity
Gold is priced for pure, 24-karat metal, usually quoted per tola in Pakistan (and per 10 grams in India). One tola is 11.6638 grams, and one tola is 12 masha. To value a piece, first put its weight into tola, then multiply by the rate.
Jewellery is rarely pure. Karat measures purity out of 24: 22-karat gold is 22 ÷ 24 = 91.7% gold, 21k is 87.5% and 18k is 75%. The value scales by that fraction, so 22k gold is worth 22 ÷ 24 of the 24k rate for the same weight. This calculator applies the karat for you and also shows how much pure gold the piece actually contains.
The figure is the metal value only. When you buy jewellery a maker's charge is added on top, and when you sell, a dealer usually pays a little under the pure-metal value and may deduct for stones or solder.
Gold value calculation example
At a 24k rate of 357,000 per tola, 1 tola of 22k gold is worth 327,250.
That karat works out to 327,250 per tola, or 28,056.89 per gram.
Good to know
- Use today's quoted 24k rate — gold moves daily with the world price and the rupee.
- Most Pakistani jewellery is 22k; check the hallmark if you are not sure of the karat.
- When selling, expect a little under the pure-metal value shown here, and deductions for stones or solder.
- When buying, the maker's or wastage charge is extra and is not part of the metal value.
- To convert a per-10-gram rate (as quoted in India) to per tola, multiply by 11.6638 ÷ 10 ≈ 1.166.
Gold rate calculator — common questions
How many grams is one tola of gold?
One tola is 11.6638 grams, the standard used by gold dealers in Pakistan and India. One tola is also 12 masha.
How do I calculate the value of my gold?
Take today's 24k rate per tola, multiply by the karat of your gold divided by 24 (for example 22 ÷ 24 for 22k), then multiply by the weight in tola. This calculator does all three steps.
What is the difference between 22k and 24k gold?
24k is pure gold (99.9%); 22k is 22 parts gold out of 24, about 91.7%, mixed with other metals for strength. For the same weight, 22k is worth 22 ÷ 24 of the 24k value.
How much is 1 tola of 22k gold worth?
Multiply the 24k rate per tola by 22 ÷ 24 (0.9167). If 24k is 357,000 per tola, one tola of 22k is about 327,250.
Why is the dealer's price lower than this value?
This shows the pure metal value. When you sell, dealers usually pay slightly less and may deduct for stones, solder or impurities; when you buy, a making or wastage charge is added on top.
