Split PDF and extract pages

Take just the pages you need from a PDF, or cut it into single pages, equal parts or ranges you choose. Several files download together as one ZIP. Your PDF is opened in your browser and never uploaded.

How do I split a PDF?

  1. 1Choose your PDF, or drag it onto the box. Its page count appears.
  2. 2Pick how to split: extract pages, every page, every N pages, or custom ranges.
  3. 3Type the pages or ranges (like 1-3, 5, 8-), or the number of pages per file.
  4. 4Press Split PDF and download the new PDF, or all the files as one ZIP.

How does splitting a PDF work?

  1. 01"1-3, 5, 8-" = pages 1, 2, 3, 5 and 8 to the last page
  2. 02Every N pages: files = page count ÷ N, rounded up (the last file may be shorter)
  3. 03Custom ranges: one new PDF per range

Every page in a PDF is a self-contained object with its own content, fonts and size. Splitting copies the chosen pages into new PDF files, so each new file looks exactly like those pages did in the original — same text, pictures and quality, and text stays searchable. Nothing is re-compressed.

Page numbers here are the page positions in the file, counted from 1, which can differ from the numbers printed on the pages (for example when a book starts with Roman-numbered pages). A range like 5-2 runs backwards, so you can also reverse pages while extracting.

Splitting runs on your device with the open-source pdf-lib library, and several files are packed into one ZIP in the browser. No file is sent to a server, so confidential documents stay private.

Good to know

  • To remove pages, extract the ones you want to keep: for a 10-page file without page 4, type 1-3, 5-10.
  • Page numbers are counted from the first page of the file, not the numbers printed on the pages.
  • Use "Every N pages" to cut a stack of scanned two-page forms into one file per form.
  • Need the parts in a different order or joined with other files? Use Merge PDF next.

Split PDF — common questions

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. The PDF is opened and split inside your browser on your own device. Nothing is sent to a server or stored after you close the page.

Does splitting reduce quality?

No. Pages are copied exactly, so text, pictures and drawings keep their quality and text stays searchable.

How do I remove a page from a PDF?

Choose "Extract pages" and type every page except the ones to remove — for example 1-3, 5-10 to drop page 4 from a 10-page file.

Why do I get a ZIP file?

When the split makes more than one PDF, they are packed into one ZIP so you download a single file. You can also download each PDF on its own from the list.

Can I split a password-protected PDF?

No. Encrypted PDFs can't be read without unlocking them. Save or print the file as a new PDF without protection in your PDF reader, then split that copy.

Why is each split file almost as big as the original?

Pages that share fonts or images each need their own copy of them in a separate file. That is normal; the content and quality are unchanged.
