QR code generator

Turn a link, Wi-Fi login, WhatsApp chat, email, phone number or text into a QR code. Choose colours, size and error correction, then download a PNG or print-ready SVG. Codes are static, so they never expire, and everything is made in your browser.

How do I make a QR code?

  1. 1Choose what the code should do: open a website, join Wi-Fi, start a WhatsApp chat, write an email, call or text.
  2. 2Fill in the details — the QR code updates as you type.
  3. 3Optional: change the colours, size, quiet zone and error correction.
  4. 4Download the PNG (screens, documents) or SVG (print), and test-scan it with your phone.

How does a QR code store a link or Wi-Fi password?

  1. 01Wi-Fi: WIFI:T:WPA;S:<network>;P:<password>;;
  2. 02WhatsApp: https://wa.me/<number>?text=<message>
  3. 03Email: mailto:<address>?subject=…&body=…
  4. 04Phone: tel:<number> · SMS: SMSTO:<number>:<message>
  5. 05Error correction: L ≈ 7 %, M ≈ 15 %, Q ≈ 25 %, H ≈ 30 % of the code can be restored

A QR code stores text in a grid of black and white squares (modules). For special actions the text follows a known format that phone cameras recognise: a Wi-Fi code holds the network name, security type and password (with the characters \ ; , : and " escaped by a backslash), a WhatsApp code holds a wa.me link with the number in international format and no + or leading zeros, and an email code holds a mailto: link. The exact text encoded is shown under the preview so you can check it.

QR codes use Reed–Solomon error correction (ISO/IEC 18004). Extra data is added so the code can still be read when part of it is dirty, damaged or covered: about 7 % at level L, 15 % at M, 25 % at Q and 30 % at H. Higher levels need more modules, so the code becomes denser, and the most a single code can hold drops from 2,953 bytes at L to 1,273 bytes at H. The quiet zone — a blank border, 4 modules by the standard — helps the scanner find the code.

Good to know

  • Keep the content short: a shorter link makes a simpler code that scans faster from further away.
  • Print at least about 2 × 2 cm (0.8 in), and larger when people scan from a distance — roughly 1/10 of the scanning distance.
  • Dark code on a light background scans best. Avoid light-on-dark and low-contrast colour pairs.
  • Use the SVG for print: it stays sharp at any size.
  • Always test-scan with an iPhone and an Android phone before printing many copies.

QR code generator — common questions

Do these QR codes expire?

No. They are static codes: the link or text is stored inside the code itself, not on our server, so they keep working for as long as the content (for example your website) works.

How do I share my Wi-Fi with a QR code?

Choose Wi-Fi, enter the network name and password and pick the security type (WPA for almost all home routers). Guests scan it with their phone camera to join without typing the password.

How do I make a WhatsApp QR code?

Choose WhatsApp and enter the number with its country code, such as +92 300 1234567. You can add a ready-made message. Scanning opens a chat with that number.

Which error correction level should I choose?

Medium suits most uses. Choose High if the code will be printed small, used outdoors, or partly covered by a logo; choose Low for very long content on a screen.

Is my Wi-Fi password or data uploaded?

No. The code is made in your browser and nothing is sent anywhere.

PNG or SVG?

PNG is an image for screens, documents and messages. SVG is a vector file that stays sharp at any size, which is best for printing posters, menus and packaging.
