Marks percentage formula

  1. 01Percentage = marks obtained ÷ total marks × 100

A percentage of marks is simply the share of the total you scored, out of 100. Divide the marks you got by the total marks, then multiply by 100 — so 850 out of 1100 is 850 ÷ 1100 × 100 = 77.27%.

It works for a single test or a whole result: add up all the marks you obtained and all the total marks, then apply the same formula. Most Pakistani boards set the pass mark at 33%, but check your own board or institution for the exact figure.

Marks percentage example

Scoring 850 out of 1,100 is 77.27%.

Good to know

  • For a full result, add all marks obtained and all total marks, then divide.
  • Rounding rules vary by board — some round up at 0.5, some don't.
  • To convert percentage to CGPA, your university's own scale applies — ask your institution.
